Press Releases

I should put out free press releases for each of these businesses, shouldn’t I?

Colin:

One press release per week–unless you’re issuing them for SEO purposes only–is not a wise move if you’re truly looking for earned media placements. Rather, one at the end of the first quarter, one at the end of the second, and then one every other month thru the end of the year would be a better move.

My recommendation is based on the notion that what you’re doing is unique enough to earn some unique placements but that in order to do so your first release should not only describe your mission and vision but also include some information related to your progress to date.

Contact me if you’d like to know more, and in the meantime, best of luck with the endeavor.

Thank you for posting Mikal! You’re the first stranger to post since this site got up! And I’ve found the same things you’ve mentioned about unnecessary press releases. First, free press release sites are primarily spam sites, and I cannot but assume that there are some engines etc. that may blackball me for using them. At the same time there are surely obscure papers that read them… My second concern was, as you said, that there was no way to get the tone down. I tried a few times, but I couldn’t find anything to say that wasn’t a salespitch for most of these businesses, and that I guess reflects that they haven’t been around long enough for me to be secure in the non-overlapping nature of their competencies. Each of these businesses are nothing like I’ve ever found on the net before, and each would thrill someone like me, but I haven’t found why some of them should thrive on the wider open market yet.
